16 ohms and 94dB: amplifier matching needs more than a phone output

It reduces the voltage required to reach a given level compared with a higher-impedance design, but it can increase current demand from the amplifier. In short, “low impedance” does not automatically mean “easy to drive well”.

A capable dedicated headphone amplifier or a well-designed headphone output on an integrated amplifier, DAC/headphone amplifier or network player should be a more appropriate partner than assuming any low-power portable source is ideal.
